Fairview Home for Friendless Children of Watervliet,
Town of Colonie, Albany County, NY
Index of Names on 1900 U.S. Census
Index & Webpage by Cliff Lamere 12 Mar 2004
Best viewed using Internet Explorer
There were two pages on the 1900 census devoted to the Fairview Home, which was located near the city of Watervliet (previously known as West Troy). Page 1 (see image) listed the Matron and other workers at the home. It also began the list of the children staying there. Page 2 completed the list of children. Images of these two pages have been put online by Raymond W. LeMay III. See his website for much more information about Fairview Home.
The lists of names of orphans and destitute children below were transcribed from the two pages mentioned. Some names were very difficult to read. They have been compared with lists in the 1901 Journal of the Board Of Supervisors of Albany County, NY put online by Mr. LeMay. These three journal pages (439, 441, and 443) have some of the same names as below, but others as well. 40 children are listed in the journal, and much information about them and their parents is spread out over three pages (the first page of 35 names lacks the last five names).
Names in square brackets [ ] show the spellings which were in the journal that were definitely different from what the census showed. Names which could not be deciphered will be corrected if other information becomes available to me.
